What has happened at your community since the Convention at Ross River Homestead?
We know that many people left the convention with enthusiasm to get started on programs and projects to begin to deal with Indigenous male health issues in their community. We have heard of a couple and it has inspired us to think that there may be other communities which have started on some small project that they would like to report.
Here is one recent report:
Since the Convention at Ross River myself and Ralph Malbunka (Aboriginal Health Worker) have attended several meetings to pass on what happened at the convention. After discussion with management in Remote Health I found we have support there in the idea of a seperate Men's Health Place if we can get the council to allocate a building for the purpose. This could take some time to happen so in the meantime Ralph and I are opening the clinic on Tuesday nights from 6-9pm. It's been pretty quiet mostly but a lot better since we put on tea and coffee and food. Anyway by just talking to the guys we've generated a lot of interest and talk and we are hoping that gradually it will become a council agenda item and we will get a place for just the men.
