The image above illustrates the structure and intention of the convention. Indigenous males from all States and Territories of Australia were invited to come together at Ross River Homestead via Alice Springs on the 4th and 5th of October 1999 to share their work, their experiences, activities, successes, hopes, aspirations, and achievements in an all male (and mostly Indigenous) forum.

Delegates were also invited to present the most important health-influencing issues for the group they represented. Recurring themes and frequently presented issues assisted in defining the national agenda to begin to address these issues.

The result of the Indigenous men coming together at the Ross River Convention lead to a march from the Alice Springs Hospital to the venue of the 3rd National Men's Health Conference where a summary of the outcomes and recommendations of the convention were handed from the Chairman of the National Indigenous Male Health Reference Committee, Mr Mick Adams, to the Chairman of the 3rd National Men's Health Conference, Mr Michael Martin.

The outcomes of the Convention were also presented at the 3rd National Men's Health Conference by Mr Ken Lechleitner.
